We were awarded a grant from UKRI NERC/Cardiff University to run the project 'Lowering Impacts on the Climate by Engaging with Wales Local Residents'. This project engaged with teachers and students, increasing awareness of food climate impacts. We focused on outreaching activities combined with an interactive approach to awaken the capacity for creation and discussion around the subject. After aligning ideas as well as engaging with participants and professionals who would work together with schools, understanding the aspirations and issues of participants, we have adapted educational materials previously developed by us and the developed interventions were tested out in schools in North Wales.

Cawsom ein dyfarnu â grant gan UKRI NERC/Caerdydd Prifrysgol i redeg y prosiect ‘Lleihau Effeithiau ar yr Hinsawdd drwy Ymgysylltu â Phreswylwyr Lleol Cymru’. Bydd y prosiect hwn yn ymgysylltu ag athrawon a myfyrwyr, gan gynyddu ymwybyddiaeth o effeithiau bwyd ar yr hinsawdd. Rydym yn canolbwyntio ar weithgareddau allgymorth ynghyd â dull rhyngweithiol, i feithrin y gallu i greu a thrafod y pwnc. Ar ôl cysoni syniadau, yn ogystal ag ymgysylltu â chyfranogwyr a gweithwyr proffesiynol a fydd yn gweithio gyda’i gilydd gydag ysgolion, gan ddeall dyheadau a materion y cyfranogwyr, rydym wedi addasu deunyddiau addysgol a ddatblygwyd yn flaenorol gan fenter Brathiad i Newid Hinsawdd, a bydd yr ymyriadau a ddatblygwyd yn cael eu profi mewn ysgolion.

The partner'The Earth Project' (tEP) is a not for profit limited company whose board is made up of local, national and international members, including community representation. The tEP team has engaged with local and national (Wales) STEM experts, teachers and students, over the past 3 years, and has identified the need to provide current teaching support material, facilities and science partnerships in local schools. With very few school children in north Wales carrying on to study STEM subjects at University level, we believe more can be done to engage children early on, with topics that are of direct relevance and interest to them and that have direct positive impacts on combating climate change.

Y PARTNERMae ‘Prosiect y Ddaear’ yn gwmni cyfyngedig dielw, y mae ei fwrdd yn cynnwys aelodau lleol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol, gan gynnwys cynrychiolaeth gymunedol. Mae tîm Prosiect y Ddaear wedi ymgysylltu ag arbenigwyr, athrawon a myfyrwyr STEM lleol a chenedlaethol (Cymru) dros y 3 blynedd diwethaf, ac wedi nodi’r angen i ddarparu deunyddiau cymorth addysgu cyfredol, cyfleusterau a phartneriaethau gwyddoniaeth mewn ysgolion lleol. Ychydig iawn o blant ysgol yng ngogledd Cymru sy’n parhau i astudio pynciau STEM at lefel Prifysgol, credwn y gellir gwneud mwy i ennyn diddordeb plant yn gynnar, gyda phynciau sydd o berthnasedd a diddordeb uniongyrchol iddyn nhw ac sy’n cael effeithiau cadarnhaol uniongyrchol ar fynd i’r afael â newid yn yr hinsawdd.

The plan |
Y cynllun |
We planned a 1 session of half day (July 2021) with the schools to carry out the activities developed with pupils.
Before the sessions: we spent an hour with the teachers to ensure we all had anything needed for the activities. Activity subject: activities were based on topics related to food production and consumption covering why we need to think about food and climate change, how decisions made in primary food production impact the climate, transportation, greenhouse gases emissions from food, choices and/or decisions we make on what to eat, recipes, and food waste. Evaluation: in order to ensure the effectiveness of the toolkit we used time-series design. Before and after the proposed activities we collected a questionnaire from the teachers and feedback from the students to evaluate the proposed interventions. Lesson plans: as a way of continuing the discussion of the topic, we prepared two extra activities that may be used as a lesson plan for teachers to work with their students at an appropriate time. |
Bydd 1 sesiwn hanner diwrnod (Gorffennaf 2021) gyda’r ysgolion i gynnal y gweithgareddau a ddatblygwyd gyda’r disgyblion.
Cyn y sesiynau: byddwn yn treulio awr gyda’r athrawon i sicrhau bod gennym unrhyw beth sydd ei angen ar gyfer y gweithgareddau. Pwnc y gweithgaredd: mae’r gweithgareddau’n seiliedig ar bynciau sy’n ymwneud â chynhyrchu a defnyddio bwyd a pham bod angen i ni feddwl am fwyd a newid yn yr hinsawdd, sut mae penderfyniadau sy’n cael eu gwneud ym maes cynhyrchu bwyd cynradd yn effeithio ar yr hinsawdd, trafnidiaeth, allyriadau nwyon tŷ gwydr o fwyd, dewisiadau a/neu benderfyniadau rydyn ni’n eu gwneud ynghylch beth i’w fwyta, ryseitiau a gwastraff bwyd. Gwerthuso: er mwyn sicrhau effeithiolrwydd y pecyn, byddwn yn defnyddio dyluniadau cyfresi amser. Cyn ac ar ôl y gweithgareddau arfaethedig, byddwn yn casglu holiadur gan yr athrawon ac adborth gan y myfyrwyr i werthuso’r ymyriadau arfaethedig. Mae’r ffurflenni hyn ar gael ar dudalen 6-9. Cynlluniau gwersi: fel ffordd o barhau â’r drafodaeth ar y pwnc, rydym wedi paratoi dau weithgaredd ychwanegol y gellir eu defnyddio fel cynllun gwers i athrawon weithio gyda’u myfyrwyr ar adeg briodol. Mae’r gweithgareddau hyn ar gael ar dudalen 16-19 y ddogfen hon. |
